Westmalle
The beer that is brewed in Westmalle Abbey is world-famous. The first Westmalle was brewed in the abbey in 1836. Initially the monks produced beer for their own consumption but they started to sell the beer to others from 1856 onwards.
Westmalle Tripel was launched in 1934 and is sometimes also called the “mother of all tripels”. Quite an honour! In addition to this fruity beer, you should also try their Westmalle Dubbel, an amber trappist beer, with malty, fruity notes and a fresh, bitter aftertaste.
And of course we shouldn’t forget Westmalle’s Extra, an exclusive beer that is only served to the monks and their guests at lunch. This variant is very difficult to find.
